Default Plugins Cancelling Each Other Out

I had installed a social profiles plugin to display links to all my social profiles in the sidebar. It worked great. Then I installed a Mailchimp plugin to add an email capture to my site. That worked great. But when I tried to go back to the social profiles plugin settings it would only take me to the Mailchimp settings. I deactivated the Mailchimp plugin, and the other plugin deactivated as well. I deleted all the plugins and tried to start over, but the settings for the social plugin (I even tried a totally different one) still don't show up. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen before? And how could I fix it? I tried searching the support forum on the site that made the Mailchimp plugin, but couldn't find anything. Not sure where to turn for help.
