Can't delete widgets

I've had a really good search round, but couldn't find anything so apologies if this has been covered already.

I've added text to the widgets that I want to show on the homepage. However, I don't know how to remove the remaining widgets, which means I still have the standard text appearing saying I can fill them in! How do I get rid of them?!
