Smile Custom Canonical URI Option?

Hi,

Just started using Genesis. I want my pages/website to have canonical links.

There is an option to add a 'Custom Canonical URI' when creating a page. Does this mean that Genesis automatically adds canonical links anyway, and this is just an option to add your own if you want something more specific?

Or . . . do I have to fill in this space to add a canonical link on every page ie. it will not have one unless you specify that you want one added by filling in this option?

The reason being is that I would like a cononical link to all relevant pages.

I am copy and pasting the url in the url bar of the website and adding a / (forward slash at the end) - is this correct?

I would be very grateful for some advice from more experienced users, as I may be filling in this option box every time when I don't need to.
