make shadowbox work with <area> tags

Hi,
I'm trying to make shadowbox work with <area> tags on an image map. They don't recognize the rel="" attribute, and so I need to implement the following :

Shadowbox.init();

window.onload = function() {
Shadowbox.setup(document.getElementById("map-name").getElementsByTagName("area"));
}
</script>

I'm not sure how to do this with wordpress/genesis. Any recommendations?
