Transfer Old Rev1 theme to Studio Press Theme and upgrade WP

Hi what is the best way for me to transfer my blog from the old theme to the latest Studio Press theme?

I need to upgarde WP2.5 or 2.5 to 2.7.1 or WP2.8, whatever is the latest.

Do i need to back up my data or something?

What is the step-by-step procedure?
