Adding NextGen slideshow to home.php

I'm just trying to update my home page and installed Next Gen gallery. I've added it to other blogs no problem, so I've a fair idea how it works.

However, when I add the tags to home.php, it doesn't display. I know I need to add more code, but don't know what:
Her's what I added:
<div class="postleft">
[slideshow id=1 w=600 h=400]

</div>

Any thoughts?
