How to create a home page template?

Default How to create a home page template?
I am currently working with the Code Gray Blog Theme. By default the theme seems to start on the blog posts, whereas I want to start it with a static home page which can contain the Featured Content gallery. I am not a techie so I don't have a clue how to create the home.php template, how to include the Featured Content Gallery Code and how to get the site to start with this new home page. (The page can have the same sidebars as there are now, just the main central panel (ie.column) needs to have the FCG and then some text below it. Can someone teach me what I need to do?
