Can you run the child themes on a hosted wordpress or do you have to have genesis?

Default Can you run the child themes on a hosted wordpress or do you have to have genesis?
Hi,

I know this is probably a stupid question but to run a child theme, do you have to have the genesis framework? Or can you just download one of the child themes on your hosted WordPress blog and it will work?
