Default FCG not showing - even with no plugins on except itself.

I'm sure this must have been covered somewhere in this forum but I noticed soooo many queries around the same subject and each problem seems unlike mine...

http://www.worldwineagencies.com
[currently got the maintenance page on but will disable that for the next 8 hours to give you viewing access to help]

The code is as it came (with the Lifestyle Theme) and the images are in the right place on the server. And referenced correctly in the custom field (articleimg).
I've got more than two featured articles earmarked and the page is showing the <div> for it but not the FCG in it. Not even a white box or loading page, etc.

This displayed OK at one point in an earlier stage of the site development. On our dev server.
But within a period of server permission changes, directory changes and CSS tweaking.... the thing disappeared.

My possible thoughts...
- Server permissions changed to 777 and, weirdly, not allowing full function - What wp-includes files are effected/written to by this plug in? If I've made some files in the wp-includes folder 777 this makes them fully editable... which is OK, right?
- JQuery issues... but I've no idea if I have JQuery code outside of the plug ins, which I've incidentally switch off several times to check clashing.
- CSS clash - As odd as it sounds, this feels like it could be the area as I recall playing with the CSS just before this happened. BUT, admittedly, I didn't refresh until I'd done several changes so can't be sure.

Sorry if none of this helps. I just hope that someone out there might have experienced this or can see immediately just from viewing our site. There's always hope!

Cheers in advance.
