Can't get auto-thumbnails to work

Can't get auto-thumbnails to work

I've followed the instructions in the tutorial, but my thumbnails aren't showing up at all on the front page. I've tried .jpg files and .png files several different ways but they never show up. Can someone assure me that they do work and maybe help me troubleshoot what I'm doing wrong?
