Default What cache plugin does StudioPress Recommend?

After a fresh WordPress 3.3.1 install (including Genesis and Enterprise Child) for my website True Measure, I checked the site using the following tools:
  • Pingdom Tools
  • Webpagetest.org
  • YSlow 3.0.9 for Firefox
  • Google Page Speed for Chrome

The common issue reported by these tools related to page caching, compression (gzip), and minification for java, css, etc.

After researching available cache plugins, I decided to install W3 Total Cache. Activating the plugin caused the homepage style to vanish. This error was easily reproduced by simple activation or deactivation. Note: the plugin compatibility is listed up to 3.2.1 but I have read on this forum that others, with WordPress 3.3.1 installs, were successfully using this plugin. The plugin has a high rating 4.5 stars evaluated by 2,160 users and has been downloaded 987,306 times.

Presently, I removed all traces created by this plugin:
  • Replaced wp-config.php and .htaccess from backup
  • Deleted w3-total-cache related php files
  • Verified via phpmyadmin that no traces were left in the database

This was a clean WordPress 3.3.1 install:
  • Genesis 1.8.0
  • Enterprise Child Theme 1.1
  • Akismet Plugin (installed not activated and no other plugins)
  • Hosted at Web Hosting Hub

What cache plugin(s) does StudioPress or members of this forum recommend that integrates smoothly into the Genesis framework? Are other solutions (server-side changes, CDN, etc.) recommended by StudioPress for improving page speed load times?

Sincerely, Todd Magee
