Default Steps to change name of theme

I read a post that indicated the steps to change the name of a theme are

1. Rename folder
2. Change name of child theme in style.css

Is that bulletproof?

I was worried about doing that so I did something I thought would be essentially the same. I copied all the Studiopress theme files into a new folder with the new name, changed the theme name in the style.css file of that new folder, put that folder into the themes folder -- then activated it. .

Wrong!! It looked like a mess!

So I quickly activated my Studiopress theme again.

Still, I'd like to change the name of the theme.
