Default Question About Page Templates

Hello,

I just had a quick question about how the page templates are coded for many of the Genesis child themes. I've noticed that most of the time the genesis developers elect to echo out html elements rather than stop and then restart the php processor. This seems unusual to me. It also breaks html syntax highlighting in most code editors.

I was wondering if there's a particular reason why the pages are coded like this. Is it more efficient to code this way?
