Implementing a Wordpress blog on a site

I have someone who wants to keep their existing, HTML file site. Tried to discuss it with them but they want to keep it. But they would like to implement a wordpress blog with a studiopress theme.

What would be the best way to do this and to ensure that the WP and static site are both indexed properly by the search engines?

Did that question make sense?
