Wordpress 2.8

My wordpress dashboard is showing "wordpress 2.8 is available. Please upgrade now.". I don't know whether I will face any problems with lifestyle theme when I upgrade to new wordpress version. Is it compatible? Can I upgrade to this new version? Please guide me?
I am currently on wordpress 2.7.1.
