Default How to Upload Genesis to WordPress

Another edit. I found direction in the Genesis for Beginners guide linked at the forum, and using this successfully installed Genesis and child theme, but am unclear about whether to activate Genesis theme or only the child theme.

Here is a copy and paste of the instructions:

"1. Click on Install Themes.
2. Select “Upload”.
3. Using the browse link, find the zip file you downloaded to your computer from the link you
received by email.
4. Chose the zip and click the upload button.Your theme is now installed.
Do this for both Genesis and the child theme you purchased.
Now you may activate the child theme."

I am at Step 4. Both are uploaded to Wordpress themes and neither is activated. Do I only activate child theme?

I don't think I'm going to find answers to this one on my own, so I likely won't be editing this post again - I hope someone can help.

Cindy
