Adding linked photos

I have 2 problems I need help with. I am trying to add a subdivision page with thumbnails linking to seperate pages with detailed information on them. My questions is,
1) How do I make the thumbnails be side by side on the "subdivision page" instead on on top of each other. I would like to have rows of 3 if possible. I did try the gallery to the thumbnails, but I could not get them to link to the seperate detailed pages.
2) How do I make the names of each subdivision go away from the drop down menu on the main header? I would like to just have "subdivision" clickable and not each subdivision in the drop down sub menu.
