Post banner bigger than 468px wide?

Just a quick question. I have uploaded a banner ad into a widget for the 468x60 Post Banner and it actually only fills the left 75% of the box? Is it really designed for a larger size? It looks kind of silly with all the blank space to the right of the image. Thanks.
