unwanted Forward slants

If someone could give me some directions on which .php to look at and what to look for....
and perhaps... why this is happening.... just started messing up this Tuesday evening 6/9/09

In the section boxes on the home page and when you click to the directories....
forward slants are in front of the content excerpt....

The length of excerpts in the top section boxes have also been reduced for some reason.
the excerpts are suppose to be 80 characters long with a "read more" following it
