Header across full page

Hi

I'd like to create a header area similar to this site http://advhand.com/
I've read the various threads but I'm not getting it sorry :? I hope someone can share an easy to understand way to create the header area. I do have an understandin of WP but I just can figure the header area out on thia one so I can move forward.
