New To Genesis - Need Help Please

Hi,

I've got a question for you.. I came across a site called speckygeek.com and loved the layout! I'd like to translate my www.guitarmadeez.com site onto the same theme or very similar.

So I emailed the webmaster and he said that he build it from scratch using the genesis framework. He would sell me a similar one for $500. Is it just me or does that sound a little steep? The themes that studiopress offers seem to be more elaborate and cost a total of $80 for the theme and the framework. Speckygeek.com looks like a very basic blog, just very clean and easy to use, no clutter. I just don't feel comfortable paying $500 to someone I just met via the net. I've heard too many horror stories.

Can I build a VERY similar blog that looks the same with another Genesis theme and framework combo that only will run me $80 bucks (the going rate seems to be around $80 for more elaborate themes). Any suggestions?
