Naming specific folders

I have a recipe site. If the root is http://www.myrecipesite.com, how do I add a folder for all the recipes: http://www.myrecipesite.com/recipes and also for images: http://www.myrecipesite.com/images? Right now if I add a recipe it's going to: http://www.myrecipesite.com/green-eggs-and-ham. I would like it to go to http://www.myrecipesite.com/recipes/green-eggs-and ham. I'm really stumped on this one. I'm sure I'm overlooking something very basic!
