Default deleting unused css styling

Is there a benefit to deleting stuff from the template css stylesheet that I am not and will not use for the site?

For example: the "welcome" section of the minimum theme, sub navigation, & comment styling.

I am not using any of these on my site so it seems like I could optimize the stylesheet by getting rid of them. Correct or no?
