Wordpress membership & Forum plugins

I'm working on a site for a client who will be producing a video course. He wants the content protected by a members area and also wants a community forum.
I wondered what the current recommendations are for combining this functionality. I note studipress uses vBulletin, and I must say it looks nice and is very fast compared to the wordpress forums I've used. Can that integrate with wordpress or other members area functionality?
