Default Calling different CSS styles between themes

I'm highly eager to see the new magazine theme come to life as Brian mentioned on his blog, http://tinyurl.com/mzuuzc; however, in the mean time - I'm interested in altering a couple things on my site prior to. This is what I'm thinking of (might help as to give you a better understanding of my questions that follow); Instead of the links on the navbar directing you to a category (or a post) inside the same theme file, I'd like to have them linked to sub-domains of the root folder webtvitaly.com; (sub-domains: news.webtvitaly.com & media.webtvitaly.com) which are also located on my server.

I'm thinking this is a good idea because it would relieve much of the load off my root folder which has caused my homepage to load rather slow - and also because I'd like to utilize different themes for the given categories (ex. possibly the church or metro theme for the sub-domain "news" - and the tubular theme for the "media" category, which I've already managed to do). I guess my question is does this plan of action sound reasonable and/or do you think there is a more efficient way of accomplishing this? I'm rather certain I can do all of what I've listed above (well, we'll see about that...) but would greatly appreciate a second opinion.

Now to my main question, which if turns out to be rather simple I might be able to eliminate the headache 'of-a time I'd have dealing with my above plan - Is there a simple way to use the "home.php" of a given theme, with a different theme running the rest of my site? (might be better if I visualize it for ya)

I love the streamline design, the uniquely brilliant page templates and the overall appearance of the fluid styling, however the homepage (streamline- home.php) is just a touch too plain for the rest of the site. I'd like to implement something like the 'magazine-style' "style.css" together with it's related home.php. Possibly I could define a page template as the "home.php" and use that for the homepage through the "static front-page" option under admin options, or... beh! Well thanks a lot guys, and look forward to being able to hear what you guys think! Greatly appreciated!

Thanks a million!
Ciao!
