Good day all,
I'm presently working with the Balance theme and would like to add the same 'dark' area (for lack of better words) below the Navigation bar and the content...Here's a link, which I think will better explain what I am trying to do. http://www.carriedils.com/
I tried to install this feature over the weekend, and cannot figure it out. I have also installed the Extender plugin, which has been great for other features, and was wondering if this plugin may help with something of the sort?
Obviously, this has to do with coding, which I'm not figuring out at the moment!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

It's essentially a widget area (or actually multiple widget areas) that are conditionally called in based on the page you're on. I'll write up a quick tutorial and get back to you - unless Ozzy beats me to it. 😉

April 2, 2013 at 3:50 pm #32731chris01MemberI must have spent over 3 hours yesterday trying to figure this out - Even tried with the Extender plugin, but to no avail. From what I understand, it has to do with the #inner div? Maybe...?
Will wait for your answers - both of you are the best - Many thanks!

April 2, 2013 at 4:09 pm #32737OzzyMemberhi chris!
are you trying to use just a dark color instead of the grey pattern in the featured area and footer section or something else?
April 2, 2013 at 4:18 pm #32740chris01MemberHi Ozzy,
I'm trying to bring in a 'dark area' or design that will be situated between the Navigation Bar and the Content. Here's another example:
As you can see, Carrie has this 'black box' on all pages - with different widgets added - which I think looks great, and for sure, want to do the same thing in a different color!
Thanks for your time!

April 2, 2013 at 4:27 pm #32744OzzyMemberahh... yes. it's probably better explained in a tutorial, which i think Carrie is working on.
you can set up widget areas and then call them based on the page using is_page or is_post conditionals. i'm sure she'll explain it all wonderfully!
April 2, 2013 at 4:32 pm #32745chris01MemberHi Ozzy,
I've installed the Extender plugin so I get the "is_page or is_post conditionals" (well, starting to!) - What I'm not understanding is how a Widget would bring in the background color...
Like I said, I'm learning, and will most probably have a Duh moment when I see the response! 🙂

That covers the basics of how I did what I did, but if you're still having trouble with the style aspects, just let me know and I can help you figure it out.
Cheers,
Carriep.s. Ozzy rocks.

April 2, 2013 at 6:12 pm #32755chris01MemberHi Carrie,
First, many thanks for putting the explanation together in regards to your design!
I’ve racked my brains all last evening trying to figure it out, only to realize that I was losing more time messing around trying to be a ‘know it all’ versus asking a simple question, and, (I am so lucky) receiving a more than fantastic answer!
You know what, when I posted on this forum, and you answered earlier, I never ‘clicked’ that I was taking to the same person…that I was commenting on (link to your website) in a previous post!!
So much for paying attention!
Another thing - I also posted on your website under the post: The Weekend Redesign Challenge – asking you how you created the design in question!
OK, I’m off to figure this out –
By the way, You Rock girl!
Many thanks from the Laurentians – North of Montreal, Quebec
