Hey friends!
Would love some advice on Featuring Posts from another site on my site.
Why would you want to do that? You ask? Fair question...
I have 2 areas of my life that are pretty much completely independent of one another: my role as a pastor and and my role as a web designer. I have a site for each area set up. I also have a third site where I would like to use as a general overview of who I am, the different areas of my life, that gives links to go check out each of those areas. It looks like this:
BodieQuirk.com -- Overview site of all my roles and areas + personal blog
BodieQuirkDesign -- My web business + web design blog
YouCanLearnTheBible -- My Bible nerd stuff + bible nerd blogWhat I want to do on my overview site (BodieQuirk.com) is add the Genesis Sandbox Featured Content widget 3 times. You can probably guess where this is going.
First, I want one instance to show posts from my personal blog, that I can do.
Then I want one to show posts from my bible website, and the third to show posts from my design website. The goal being I would love anyone who goes to BodieQuirk.com to be able to get an updated overview of what is going on in the different areas of my life, and then follow links to either the Bible site or the design site, or stay on the personal site.
My question is: How do I go about adding a widget that pulls in an external blog and displays posts + featured images? Would I use RSS?
I realize I could just use one website and use categories, but I think it would be cleaner to separate them into separate sites. Both for SEO reasons and it allows my to keep my areas distinct and focused.
Sorry for the long post. Love any help or guidance!
Thanks
Bodie

Yes and no. ๐ A quick answer...You could pull in an RSS feed from one site into another. You could use this plugin or this, for instance. To get the address of the feed from your other site, it will generally be your other site's URL with /feed at the end, and this is what you would use with that plugin. It could pull "everything", or possibly you could narrow it down by category or other criteria.
Will this RSS type thing feed display in the Featured Content widget? I'm going to say no. But you may be able to stick shortcodes into a widget for each feed, style it up, and then you'd have more or less what you're looking for.
Hope that helps, Dave
