Theme: Mindstream (also integrating Woo Commerce)
Hello -
I have purchased the Genesis Extender Plugin so I can add some widgetized areas to the Mindstream Theme as after much research I just wasn't confident trying to 'plumb' in the home page widget areas with the sidebar.
The header has been removed on purpose - to make a two column format.
1) I am wanting to have a 'featured' widget area, which will show on all pages - home page will have a slider and the other pages will have a different image at the top (using Jetpack for that functionality)
2) Home page to have a content area for the 'Genesis Featured Page Plugin'
3) Home Page to have a Right Header Widget for the Shopping cart icons.
Am I correct with these Hook Allocations?
1) genesis_before_loop priority 1 for the Slider/Jetpack Image Widget Area to be shown on all pages
2) genesis_before_loop priority 2 for the 'Genesis Featured Page Plugin' Widget
3) genesis_header_right for the shopping cart icon widgetOr - is there an easier way to do this? My skill level - quite capable of creating widget areas (function and stylesheet) with my favourite Corporate Theme, just not sure how to when there are no existing widget areas on the home page as the theme is designed for latest post blogging.
Thank you very much in advance
Jayne

Is it easy to do without using the plugin? Is there a website link you could point me to?
It's a shame that a lot of the new themes which have been coming out are more designed for blogging than static websites - I miss the widget areas 🙂
July 28, 2014 at 9:55 am #116090AnitaKeymasterWell, I can't say for sure because I don't use that plugin. It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. Home pages can be taken from one theme and added to another and editing the CSS and functions. Static websites are basically websites using Pages rather than posts. You have the option to use Featured Pages on widgetized home pages.

The Genesis Extender Forum is really helpful. Try there.
Extender lets you use a significantly customizable, widgetized home page

Thanks so much for those links - especially the Vimeo channel.......
I know just enough to get myself into trouble! lol!
Thanks Anita 🙂 - yes I just wish more of the the newer themes had come out the box with widgetized home pages.
I really wish I had the time to properly put aside to be able to build my own child theme instead of copying code from different posts and websites and crossing my fingers I don't get a blank screen after saving 🙂 lol!!
Appreciate your responses 🙂
