Hi All,
I'm looking to try before I buy. Does anyone know of a demo site that I can log into as admin and mess with settings? If I had my druthers, I'd be test-driving NewsPro, MagazinePro, or MetroPro.
Thanks!December 6, 2016 at 2:07 pm #197134Victor FontModeratorMess with Settings? Genesis doesn't have a lot of settings on the back end. There's nothing really to mess with. Any settings on the back end, are only a convenience to leverage standard WordPress settings. The strength of Genesis is in its code base.
Take a look at this beginner's guide. It will tell you what you need to know. http://www.studiopress.com/download/genesis-for-beginners.pdf

Have you requested your free website audit yet?December 6, 2016 at 3:51 pm #197139topdotterMemberOkay, then I'll be specific.
My homepage will have a sidebar/content/sidebar layout. Is there a way to specify that in a responsive situation on a smaller device the positioning should be sidebarLeft at top then content then sidebarRight at bottom? Does a site's responsive behavior depend on the framework or on the specific theme and is there a way to specify that behavior?
Thanks!
December 6, 2016 at 4:14 pm #197141Victor FontModeratorMobile device behavior is all driven by the child theme's CSS. You can tweak the CSS to do anything you want. You can select a site-wide layout in the Genesis Theme Settings menu, but you have the ability to override the layout on a page level as well. You just click on the picture of the layout you want. Some theme developers disable some layouts for their theme, but they are all built into the framework and easy to reactivate of they've been deactivated in a specific theme.

All have a "demo" where you can see what each looks like. There is also a Showcase where you can see what others have done using child themes to design, modify, craft a theme to customize it for their specific needs.

December 7, 2016 at 8:46 am #197176Victor FontModeratorI know what you intended. Please understand that private messages can't be seen by anyone except forum moderators. Unless you intended it for a moderator, no one in this thread can see it. Not even the original poster or any person you intended it for. There's no benefit to answering any post in this forum privately.

It goes against logic though, have a "reply" button, but when set to private, it doesn't reach the intended. I imagine many have been caught out?

6. How to Post a Private Reply
Sometimes you may wish to share your site URL or other information to help resolve a thread, but do not wish to make it public. There is a feature built into the forum where you may mark a reply as Private then only forum moderators and administrators will be able to see it. Simply select “Set as private reply” before submitting your reply to make it private. An important note. The community forums are community driven and these feature will make it so your reply is only visible to the person who originally started the thread, yourself, and moderators. Other community members will be blocked from seeing your response so this may not be the best option when someone who is not a moderator is helping you.
A Private Reply *is* visible to the person who started the thread, and moderators/admins. I see your private reply, because I'm a moderator. But, as these are driven by community members, in a conversation between more than two people (such as this thread, where there were more than 2 people participating), it's not "cool" to exclude a participant in the conversation from seeing the entire conversation.
December 8, 2016 at 11:37 am #197267Funky GrafixParticipantSince you are privvy to my "private" message, you have seen that it contains sensitive information and is the reason why it was marked "Private".
Why then are you suggesting it is "uncool" to mark the message as private", given my wish to respect privacy? On this basis, I don't really understand the purpose of your message. But thank you for explaining that private replies "are indeed" visible to the person who initiated the thread, not just the moderators and admins, which conflicts with the information in Victor's message?

There are no admin settings for this in any theme or in the framework.
This would be done by modifying code in the child theme itself.
Thus, seeing the admin area will not help for what you're looking for.

December 8, 2016 at 2:20 pm #197303topdotterMemberInteresting. Even as OP, I still can't see your reply, @funky-grafix.
I just see "This reply has been marked as private." and a big blue band.
December 8, 2016 at 2:49 pm #197307Funky GrafixParticipantMy private reply was intended for you - only and hence marked as private.
Your message confirms the following
1. Victor is correct when he stated that nobody other than forum moderators and admin get to see messages marked as private. (Praise to Victor)
2. Susan is incorrect after stating "your reply is only visible to the person who originally started the thread, yourself, and moderators". (No praise to Susan)So - topdotter, do you still require some help? If so, get in touch - [email protected]
