If this has already been discussed, I can't find it. I'm using the Lifestyle theme and have started to share blog posts on Facebook. When I share most blog posts, a nice preview graphic displays, and you can scroll through the photo you want to use for the preview. A textual preview also displays that shows people the first part of the blog post. When I add a link on Facebook to one of my Genesis blog posts though, all I get is a cryptic http://www... link with no text or graphic preview. How can I fix this? Sharing posts on Facebook is pointless without the preview of text and graphics.
February 8, 2013 at 8:02 pm #19137AnitaKeymasterFacebook controls what get's posted. To help it along, I use this plugin called Easy Facebook Share Thumbnails. It works with your Featured Images that you attach to your posts. If you place a default image in the settings, if you don't have a Featured Image attached to your post, it will pull the default image.

One thing to keep in mind... that it doesn't happen immediately. Facebook needs time to recognize that you added this to the site.

February 21, 2013 at 9:08 am #21963jenniferpinkleyParticipantI installed the plugin and it still doesn't work. When I share my main web page, I do get a preview and can select a thumbnail, but not with any other pages. Does anything with the hosting affect this kind of thing? My blogs on Hostgator work perfectly. This one is on GoDaddy.

February 21, 2013 at 8:16 pm #22122jenniferpinkleyParticipantI'm in the process of moving the site that hasn't been working to Hostgator. The site is swirlingstone.com. I just tried to share a post now that it's on Hostgator and it STILL doesn't work. Put this post into Facebook and see what happens. http://swirlingstone.com/binghamite-pendant-set-in-sterling-silver/
This site is a clean install running on the newest version of WP and also the latest version of Genesis.
One of my other sites is http://www.discoverhistorictravel.com and it's running an older version of WP and and older version of Genesis/Lifestyle theme and it still works just fine. Both are now on the same hosting platform so the only difference is software versions.
Today I helped a friend set up a new WordPress with with a free template. It's running the same version of WP that my swirlingstone site is running, and preview graphics work just fine on Facebook too. So that really leads me to think that the problem is with Genesis or the Lifestyle theme.
I'll install the plugin on this new site, but it's ticking me off that such a simple thing is no longer working.
February 21, 2013 at 10:06 pm #22133jenniferpinkleyParticipantI did some more troubleshooting. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled WordPress. The preview still doesn't work. I also noticed that it doesn't work on Google + either. I did some reading and several sites mention inserting code in the functions.php file to add that functionality. I don't know how that all works with Genesis.
I also found a Facebook debugger: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug
When I enter one of my blog addresses, I get the following errors:

March 20, 2013 at 7:45 am #29676AnitaKeymasterI am seeing all the Open Graph settings in your theme. Have you validate the Share plugin settings? Make sure that all the settings in the "working" site are the same in the "nonworking" site.

March 20, 2013 at 7:51 am #29677jenniferpinkleyParticipantYes I deactivated every single plugin several times, dinked around with every setting I can think of and it still won't work. The Share plugin doesn't work.
I have found several sites with various info about editing .php files to get Facebook/G+ to preview correctly. One fix (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/blog-title-and-thumbnail-not-showing-on-facebook-share) says to edit the header.php file and change meta description in the header.php, but when I look at the Genesis header.php file it says not to edit it under any circumstances.
March 20, 2013 at 11:28 am #29732jenniferpinkleyParticipantI finally got it to work again. I'm not sure what I did.
March 20, 2013 at 2:37 pm #29795AnitaKeymasterGlad it got it working. I'll close this thread. If you have another issue, open a new one.
