I'm trying to put in a slider on the front page of Goinggreen.
Followed this tutorial:
http://www.briangardner.com/home-widget-area-eleven40/Seems to partially work, because I can see the widget area, but I can't make the slides show.

March 6, 2013 at 10:15 am #24556GitaStreetParticipantI put it up again.
Tested to see if Genesis Slider works instead of Genesis Responsive Slider. It did, oddly.
It basically just goes blank.

March 6, 2013 at 12:25 pm #24572weslindaMemberAre there any other slider plugins installed? The first step I would take is back out any plugins and activate one by one. Perhaps one is overlapping this. Beyond that, I would say that I'd need access to the site to diagnose.
I've never seen any problems with the Genesis Repsonsive Plugin.
If you'd like to try another responsive slider plugin, Soliloquy is a great plugin. http://soliloquywp.com/

March 6, 2013 at 1:42 pm #24593GitaStreetParticipantThanks, I was curious to know if that if it didn't work on Going Green by default.
I even tried the "normal" Genesis Slider on another relatively fresh WordPress, Genesis and Going Green installation - and then that one didn't even work. That one works on the link.
I'm thinking it might have been because I already had Slidedeck installed, but I decided I prefer the Genesis Slider in this case.
I mostly needed to know if this was normal.
Next time I need a slider, I'm going to test Genesis Responsive slider first, so I can get to why they were not working for me. I've used it before, without any trouble.
I'm going to keep an eye on whether they might be conflicting with Slidedeck . That Soliloquy looks promising.
Thanks again 🙂

March 6, 2013 at 6:52 pm #24668weslindaMemberThe slider will work with Going Green. No issues between the two. Only need to drop it into the widget area and away it goes. There is something overwriting the CSS for the slider. It's showing up in the code, but something is hiding it in the CSS. If you look at the HTML, the slider and the images are there. Something is hiding it from the page. A dive into CSS would be required to fully diagnose.
That's why I mentioned disabling other plugins to be able to narrow down what could be causing the problem.

March 14, 2013 at 10:16 pm #26988JamieDMemberI have successfully added the Gensis Responsive Slider to the Going Green Theme. Below are some articles I read to help me, in addition to the Brian Gardner post.
Add a widget area:
http://www.studiopress.com/tutorials...er-widget-area
http://codex.wordpress.org/Widgetizing_ThemesNick's
super clear explanation: http://nickc.co/sidebarI added this to the bottom of my funchions.php
/** Add support for 3-column footer widgets */ add_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 3 ); genesis_register_sidebar( array( 'id' => 'before-posts-sidebar', 'name' => 'Before Posts', 'description' => 'This is a sidebar that goes before the posts in the #content.', ) );
add_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 3 ); genesis_register_sidebar( array( 'id' => 'before-posts-sidebar', 'name' => 'Before Posts', 'description' => 'This is a sidebar that goes before the posts in the #content.', ) );
I added this to the top of my home.php right below the <?php
add_action( 'genesis_before_loop', 'child_before_posts_sidebar' );
/** Loads a new sidebar before the posts in the #content */
function child_before_posts_sidebar() {echo '<div class="before-posts-sidebar">';
dynamic_sidebar( 'before-posts-sidebar' );
echo '</div>';}
I created a Category called "Home Page Images" and created posts each with one image inserted into them. Then in Genesis>Slider Settings, I chose the Home Page Images category under "Choose a term to determine what slides to include."
Then lastly, when I go to Appearance>Widgets, I now have a new widgeted area called "Before Posts" I put the Genesis Responsive Slider in that widget. For my purposes, I also put in a Genesis Featured Posts widget under the slider.
You can see my site at http://www.mediaworxav.com/greenhornets
I hope this helps.

March 15, 2013 at 8:29 am #27134weslindaMemberJamie, a nice walk through on adding a widget in a specific area for Going Green. One thing, I think you might have accidentally added the following code by accident. It is specific to adding footer widgets and not a part of adding your slider.
/** Add support for 3-column footer widgets */
add_theme_support( ‘genesis-footer-widgets’, 3 );
