I just started using Genesis. I was having trouble with "Sixteen Nine", so I tried installing "Nomadic". I don't know if this is a "Nomadic" question or a "Genesis" question.
When uploading the header image, it crops and resizes. But when it displays, the header is shorter than the height that the image resized to so it overflows.
I can go into the CSS and make the header height larger, but I wouldn't think I should have to. Am I missing something?
PS: I may create a child theme to Nomadic to contain the CSS modifications I'm trying.

No matter what image I use, it gets cropped and stretched or squeezed to 920 x 150. It doesn't make sense that the theme forces the size of the image, then sets a display size that won't fit the image.
September 26, 2013 at 9:33 am #64297AnitaKeymasterThere is a default setting for the header for all of the themes. If you need something specific to your particular header, you need to change it in your Functions.php file. Look for Custom Support for Header and change the dimensions to be the exact same as your header. Then go to Appearance > Header and you will see that the dimensions have now changed. Upload your image again and it will not stretch to fill the space.

The Genesis theme expects a header image that is 920 x 150. I've made a header image that is exactly that size. When I load the page, the bottom of the header image is cut off, because the Nomadic theme specifies a header height of 90.
I know how to adjust the CSS for the header to make it fit the image. I know how to modify functions.php so that it sizes the header differently. I can fix it, but I wouldn't think I should have to modify theme files to do it. I was looking for a configuration somewhere in the admin UI that would address it. It seems like a minor bug in the theme.
September 26, 2013 at 11:20 am #64308AnitaKeymasterI got you. I was thinking you meant the reverse way. So because that theme you are using is a much older theme and one of the free ones... and I know you shouldn't have to modify the files... you'd have to. I just downloaded Nomadic again and the header size in the CSS is the 960 x 90 versus the 920 x 150 that's in the functions file. I think that might have been a mistake that was overlooked but I can't say for sure.

September 26, 2013 at 3:17 pm #64379DrewMemberThat sounds right. I'm two days into using Genesis, so I didn't know if this was a theme bug or if there was some setting that I wasn't aware of.
