I have two web sites. One a wp site that I used a free theme. It is up and running smoothly. Recently spoke with a lady that has been using Genesis and Studio press for her site ( I love her site). so I decided to buy Genesis and studio Press. I am totally lost. After purchase I uploaded Genesis Framework to my wp site which is hosted by Hostgator. I also uploaded Dynamik Website builder. Everything I uploaded looks good. So what I think I have is this: Genesis sample? Genesis Framework, and dynamik Website builder (dynamik-Gen) which I think is a free Theme?
At this point, I don't know what I have or if I need to purchase a theme. I was wondering if someone, can lead me to what I have to do next. I hope I didn't waste my money on these purchases because it may be way over my ability. Also is there a guide that I can download that gives a step by step guide for setting up my site.March 3, 2017 at 11:53 am #202403Victor FontModeratorThe Genesis Framework is a developer's tool and in the right hands, you can do amazing things with it. While Dynamik can make the job a little easier, there's no getting around learning a little PHP, HTML, and CSS. Think about visiting https://knowthecode.io/. This site is owned by Tonya Mork. She does an excellent job teaching the Genesis Framework and some of her beginner courses are free. Check her out.

December 15, 2017 at 2:37 pm #214585RainbowsplashMemberI'm getting ready to jump in and purchase Genesis. I plan to use Parallax Pro for a band website. The site is already up and running on WP. After I install Genesis and the child theme Parallax Pro, what steps do I need to take in order to work on Parallax Pro behind the scenes without taking down the current site?
I'm thinking of installing Genesis on another site where the theme people are telling me to update the theme. Would I export the settings in wp, install the theme again as a child and then import the settings to the theme which is now a child? What in the world do I do there?
December 16, 2017 at 8:11 am #214596Victor FontModeratorIt's always best to develop in your local environment or in a copy of your site on your server. Some hosts will auto-create a staging environment for you. There are many tutorials on the web on creating a development environment, backing up your current site to it, and restoring the new site to your production environment.

Yes, I believe I have to create a name.nameofsite.com area to work in. Then I'll have to read up on how to move everything. Excited. Scared.December 17, 2017 at 7:51 am #214631Victor FontModeratorI use Updraft Plus professional to migrate sites. There are other plugins available that can handle this for you.

I created a subdomain and installed wp into a new folder using the auto install feature through my host, but it overwrote the root index file. Support at least saved me and figured that out. I knew everything was still there because I could log into the regular home page. So I immediately backed everything up manually through ftp - that scared me! I think I need to get going with updraft! Now I can start genesis and parallax. Thanks! -
