I have a blog I'm using the Genesis theme for. Do you know how I insert a full width image with a button link similar to how this website did it? (they also use Genesis). Thanks.
January 6, 2017 at 9:30 am #198864Victor FontModeratorIt all depends on the theme you are using. The example site is using a custom theme from Brian Gardner. The large image is in a welcome widget area in front-page.php. You can always create your own widget area and render it in front-page.php.

I want to create a new widget area right underneath the header. I want its width to be equal to the width of the content and sidebar combined.
I found The Genesis - Simple Hooks Plugin as well as this set of instructions on how to create a new widget area. http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/register-widget-area/
I took this code from the link above and tried to paste it in the plug in section for 'Genesis_Before_Content'. It just spit it out as text directly on the website rather than creating a widget area. You can see it up there if you visit the url to the website.
I also wasn't sure whether to check execute php or execute shortcode but I tried all combinations.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
//* Register center homepage widget area
genesis_register_sidebar( array(
'id' => 'center-homepage',
'name' => __( 'Center Homepage', 'Genesis' ),
'description' => __( 'This is a widget area that can be placed in center of homepage', 'Genesis' ),
) );Is this part supposed to go into home.php rather than the plug in? I can't find home.php. And if I did, what do I enter into the plug-in? The sample seems like it's for after a post and I want it on the home page.
January 7, 2017 at 12:59 pm #198967Victor FontModeratorI don't know what theme you are using, so I can't tell you what theme slug to use. Where you have 'Genesis' in your code, this should be the theme slug. I suggest you open functions.php and look for any other genesis_register_sidebar code.
genesis_register_sidebar will register the widget area so it appears in your Appearance/Widgets menu in the admin area. It does not display the widget on any page however. To display the widget area, you need to edit front-page.php. Older themes use home.php. Front-page.php is used for the more modern themes. You very likely have a function in that page that has the code for displaying the widget. You just need to copy the code from another widget area and modify it so it reflects your changes.
Here's a tutorial I did for another Studio Press theme, but the process is the same. https://victorfont.com/add-widget-areas-to-news-pro-theme/
