We use lifestyle theme the older version 1.0 is this version mobile responsive?
I ask for two reasons:
Our developer at the time customized this orginal V1.0 quite a bit, css changes for borders, side bars and over all made site wider etc (we have Lifestyle latest version BUT on testing in view themes in WP it messed everything up and things bumping into each otherSo My 2nd question is I did not really want to update to Lifestyle 2.0 as several sites we also started out at the time using V1.0 and will need a lot of work to look right for latest Lifestyle version -
Do you think it will be ok staying with v1.0? I welcome any advice and feedback
April 16, 2015 at 10:14 am #148138ChristophMemberHi,
if you want to stay with Lifestyle v1.0 you will have to create media queries in the style.css.
I´m not sure if that will be faster/easier than to transfer the websites over to the latest version of Lifestyle Pro.
April 16, 2015 at 10:16 am #148139JennyLonMemberI have no idea what media media queries is.... or why I need them please explain....
ThanksApril 16, 2015 at 10:22 am #148140ChristophMemberHi,
media queries are used to define different style rules for different media types/devices.
Since phones and tablets have smaller screens than a regular desktop computer or laptop, you
have to define in the media queries how to deal with that.
E.g. fit the text into the screen without cutting words, decrease the size of images, let the sidebars float underneath the main body text, display a mobile navigation menu,...
April 17, 2015 at 7:43 am #148223JennyLonMemberThanks Christoph, a lot of work beyond me coding wise... I think it might be easier to migrate from our old lifestyle 1.0 and frankly start over with a new mobile friendly responsive studio press theme such as Lifestyle pro and transfer all my words picts over to that.
I have a question as best way to go about this swap over since some pages get ranked nicely already and traffic regularly and business
******I can't just switch themes as already explained the current theme is all customized size wise etc so it will mean swapping all content into new theme. To start swapping should I create the new theme in a sub directory of existing website (and not obviously make it live UNTIL once everything is in it) and have theme looking how I want and ready to go live I then guess I switch directories of taking newly created theme site and take everything over to where the current old one on main root of site is remove old site everything and add in new one...is that the logical best simple way to do this?April 17, 2015 at 8:18 am #148224ChristophMemberHi,
you can create a sub-domain or a new folder on your hosting account and install WordPress there; to move the content could use the build in WordPress Import/Export function.
Or you could backup the current website with plugins like Duplicator, Updraft Plus or Backup Buddy and "restore" the backup into a sub-domain or new folder on your hosting account. This will create a copy of your current website that you can start changing.
Make your adjustments on the new installation and when you are happy with your results, you can use one of the plugins I mentioned to make a copy/backup of it.
Then you would “restore” this new version into your current website/website location.
