I am looking at the instructions to set up the portfolio part of this theme and there is information missing (keep in mind that I may not know what I don't know).
The instructions I see are as follows:
1 - Navigate to Portfolio > Add New to create a new Portfolio Post
2 - Enter a Title to be displayed at the top of the Portfolio Post and on Portfolio Archive Pages
3 - Edit the permalink if desired. The default will be a web-friendly version of the Portfolio Post Title
4 - Enter Content for your Portfolio Post. Our Sample include an Image and Description text. (See Below)
5 - Set a Featured Image to be displayed on Portfolio Archive Pagesthen there's a sample code under it:
<img src="http://demo.studiopress.com/executive/files/2012/09/antarctica.jpg" alt="Antarctica" /> Here's a place for you to enter a description of your portfolio item.
But there's nothing in these instructions that causes the page to "look" like the page that's on the demo. Now when I check out the source code for the demo page it looks an aweful lot like there are plenty more steps involved in making the page line up the images etc to look like it does.
Am I missing something or are these instructions written from a point of view that I should know something else first. Or are these instructions taking for granted that I understand some other tasks that need to be done.

Simply add new pages to the Portfolio and make sure you add featured images which are the exact same size to all these single CPT pages.
Use 540 x 340 or a size which re-sizes perfectly to this size like 1080 x 680.

And if not what can I do that looks like what I need. I need a portfolio for each of about 3 or 4 topics (not really portfolios - but a place to display the topics like portfolios).
December 17, 2013 at 4:18 am #79713Brad DaltonParticipantYes, You can create an unlimited amount of custom taxonomy types so you can have multiple archives for different CPT categories (taxonomy types).
December 17, 2013 at 4:21 am #79715rstynerParticipantOkay great. Would you have a minute to share with us how that is done? Maybe list instructions step by step to set up one so I can use them to set up the rest? When I hear the word taxonomy, I get that weird feeling folks get before they take a test about something they aren't ready to test on...lol
December 17, 2013 at 4:26 am #79717rstynerParticipantOkay wait a minute. I think I found some instructions inside my account. But if you care to share I will listen anyway. I think I just have the problem of not knowing exact terms for what I need. I am hoping the instructions on creating a portfolio archive page will do what I need...now I hope I can change the word "portfolio" as well. Thanks
December 17, 2013 at 4:35 am #79721rstynerParticipantOkay here are the instructions I found.
HOW TO CREATE A PORTFOLIO ARCHIVE PAGE The Portfolio Page will be created automatically similar to a posts archive page once one or more Portfolio Posts have been published. The URL for the Portfolio Page will be Your Site URL followed by /portfolio/ Ex: http://demo.studiopress.com/minimum/portfolio/ Note: After activation of the Minimum Pro theme you may need to navigate to the Settings > Permalinks page in your WordPress admin panel and save the settings for the Portfolio feature to work correctly.
Unfortunately it says that it's automatically created, which I know it is now, but can you create other's with different titles? I am assuming that if I created a portfolio called "Chevy Truck Reviews" that on the left of my admin I'd see "Chevy Truck Reviews" right under the original one called "Portfolio", where I'd scroll over it and see the options to create a new "Chevy Truck Review" post.
December 17, 2013 at 4:50 am #79724Brad DaltonParticipantYou will need to edit the code to change the name of the CPT which is Portfolio by default.
Or, you can add support for Custom Taxonomy Types which are like categories for your CPT. http://wpsites.net/web-design/add-support-for-creating-custom-taxonomies-to-existing-portfolio-custom-post-type/
December 17, 2013 at 5:11 am #79729rstynerParticipantThanks man I will check this out for sure.
December 17, 2013 at 7:06 am #79746rstynerParticipantBrad is there anything else to do other than those instructions on the site you linked to above? I did what it said and am not getting the result I had hoped for. I am almost convinced that I just simply don't know how to say what it is I am looking for. This seemed to be the solution at first until I tried to create a"Type", which I thought would be a whole different portfolio, but it's not linking up that way. What am I missing in this?
December 17, 2013 at 7:59 pm #79845Brad DaltonParticipantSimply create a Type and then add new Portfolio pages which you will need to assign to your new Type. You'll find a new meta box in your edit screen which is like the categories module.
Then you'll need to link to the new archive type like you did with the portfolio archive page.
