I have installed Simple Sidebars and created a new sidebar to be used with all blog posts.
I can get the sidebar to work on an individual post, but do I need to go in and add the sidebar to all posts individually? Is there a way to automatically assign this sidebar to the blog roll.
Also, I have added the new simple side bar to the Blog Page, but still the default side bar shows up.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks you!!
BTW this post shows the blog roll side bar: http://bluehost.trypsych.com/leaving-the-vatican-a-lesson-in-humility/
April 21, 2013 at 8:06 pm #36789AnitaKeymasterYou can assign a Sidebar to a Category. Open up the Categories, select a category to edit - and you will see Sidebar Options and a drop down. Just select the one you want on each sidebar.

April 22, 2013 at 7:31 am #36869AnitaKeymasterLet me know if this works for you so I can resolve and close this out.

April 22, 2013 at 8:57 am #36882tavismeParticipantI had actually marked this post as resolved, but it is not.
I added a category BLOG, and in the set up selected the BLOG sidebar.
Then I added the category BLOG to several blog posts, but the Blog sidebar does not appear when selecting that category. could it be because the posts have multiple categories?
The blog side bar does show up when I select "blog side" in the post set-up.
April 22, 2013 at 9:00 am #36883AnitaKeymasterBlogs are typically set up in this fashion. Create a page called "Blog" and use the Page Template called "Blog" - then save it. This page would pull ALL of your "blog" entries. There is no need to create a "Category" called Blog.

April 22, 2013 at 9:40 am #36893tavismeParticipantThe blog is set up in that manner.
I was trying to figure out how to have the newly created BLOG SIDEBAR (created with Simple Sidebars) to show up on blog posts without having to go in one-by one and choosing the "blog sidebar." also, I chose Blog Sidebar for the BLOG page but the default sidebar is still there.
When you suggested assigning a sidebar to a category I was just trying to think of a category that was relevant only to blog posts. I do not want the "blog sidebar" on pages (other than the blog page).
I am able to chose Blog sidebar on blog posts. That method does work
April 22, 2013 at 9:52 am #36895AnitaKeymasterThen on the Blog page where you use the Blog template - select the Sidebar you want to show up on Blog pages.

April 22, 2013 at 10:34 am #36903tavismeParticipantI have done that and it did not work. So I am here looking for a solution.
I would appreciate any other ideas you may have.
April 22, 2013 at 11:01 am #36910AnitaKeymasterYou will need to select the Sidebar you want per blog as you write it. For example - if you were to write a blog and check two categories - how would it know what sidebar to attach to that blog? It wouldn't know that.
So, will any of your blogs be designated to more than one category?

April 22, 2013 at 11:06 am #36912tavismeParticipantYes, most of the blogs are assigned to more than one category. That is why I thought to come up with a "Blog" category hoping that anytime there was a blog category assigned the blog sidebar would be used. But this method is not working.
Preferably, it would be nice to find a way to permanently assign all blog posts to use the blog sidebar.
July 4, 2013 at 10:04 am #49196GJudyParticipantI'm having the same problem at Mansfield Chamber of Commerce All The News page which is the posts page.
Custom sidebar plugin was worse.
With Simple Sidebars, I can get the sidebar I want at EACH blog post, but not at the page. Is this just the way the world is going to work? If that is the case, then I will quit fighting it, but I wanted that specific sidebar at the All The News Page as well as at each blog. I have selected the BLOG sidebar for the first blog post and have selected the same sidebar for the All the News (posts page)
Thanks for some clarity, regardless of what it may be.
