My site: http://peterswife.org is functioning perfectly.
However, suddenly I was not able to get into my wp-admin page.
I thought it had to do with my web hosting at Arvixe, but they say they don't do anything with WordPress installations. When I use: peterswife.org/wp-admin , I get a message that "This page is not loading properly. The server is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.
When I use: peterswife.org/wp-login.php , I get the page to input my username and password. Then I get the same message that the server is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.
In my requests for help from Arvixe, my web host, they asked for the user name and password for my admin so that they could investigate further.
I provided them with the info.
The next time I tried to log in with my username and password, it said I did not have the correct username for the account. It named a different user that I would never have chosen. Arvixe told me to go ahead and get a new password for that weird username since they said that was the username on record for this site.
I did that, but still continue in a loop that cannot be resolved.I asked about this on the wordpress support forum and got the following response:
"There are some factors that may have given you this error, Try:
-Increasing the Memory Limit
-Disable all plugins
-Replacing your current theme with a default twenty ten theme.
The best way to do this is by backing up your theme folder. Then deleting the theme. WordPress will automatically fall back to the default theme."Before I try any of this, do you have some help for me? I'm using The Genesis framework with Lifestyle Pro child theme.

Thank you for your help.

September 1, 2015 at 6:47 am #164203Victor FontModeratorThere's a distinct possibility you may have been hacked. Your wp-admin page is doing a 301 redirecting to itself. Run the page through this site: http://redirectdetective.com/. It will show you what's happening.
You need to go through the standard troubleshooting steps, i.e. disable plugins, use a generic .htaccess file etc. This redirect can be coming from anywhere.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?September 1, 2015 at 8:25 pm #164292imdianeParticipantThank you, Braddalton and Victor.
I finally heard from Arvixe and they said the php.ini file was corrupted. They disabled it and I was able to get into my admin page. First thing I created a new admin user and deleted the weird one.Is there any other clean up I should do so that I can continue to use the admin page?
Also, from your stand point, what could I do to prevent this kind of thing happening again?
I really appreciate your help!

You can install plugins like limit login attempts and security plugins which protect your site as well as use strong passwords.
