I am getting ready to work on a website for a documentary film and my friend wants a large video for the film trailer at the home page similar to this site-
http://www.hellboundthemovie.com/
Questions- Is it possible to embed the video in the slider of a StudioPress theme? If not, are there any StudioPress themes which will accommodate such a request? Perhaps I am thinking about the logic wrong. Anyone have any suggestion on themes if StudioPress has no suitable options? or a better logic to use to do something similar to the above website? If you can point me in the right direction I can most likely figure it out. Just not sure what course to take if I need to adapt one of my StudioPress themes.
Thanks in advance!

That's a good question. I have been looking into video-ready sliders myself recently. Here's what's interesting: any WordPress theme, Studiopress or not, has the potential to show video. (not always out-of-the-box, though)Most often, a slider is added to WordPress via a plugin. Some preparation may be needed in the theme, but many themes are set up to make putting a slider (or other component) onto a page very easily.
Not all sliders are equal, though. They vary tremendously. Your average sliders are of 2 types: one will grab excerpts and/or photos from Posts - the Genesis Slider plugins are like that. And another type is one that is designed to be loaded with images and maybe captions (having nothing to do with Posts). And there are zillions more of every stripe.
Sliders that show video are not ubiquitous. There are some very fancy ones on Codecanyon that will show video, Posts, Pages, and loads of other stuff. My fave free slider, Portfolio Slideshow, does purportedly show video, although I've never used it for that myself yet.
Interestingly, on the site you cite, that is obviously a video hosted on Vimeo (gee, could I get any more rhymes in one sentence?), and a Vimeo video can be stuck on your site using just a couple lines of code. Slider not necessarily needed.
That's a lot of info, hope it helps.

Thank you! This definitely gives me a starting point.
I have worked with slider plugins using StudioPress and the Genesis framework so I am familiar with them. I have not used the other type but am investigating.
Found one called Slide Deck, which seems good but is a bit expensive. Found another at CodeCanyon called Slider Pro which looks fairly impressive and a pretty good price.
I'm curious in regards to your comments on Vimeo - are you talking about "embedding" the video similar to what you can do with Youtube videos? I know how to do that but I want some of the styling associated with the hellbound video display and wondered does Vimeo have such feature options for their display?
Also- If any StudioPress folks are reading, do you guys have anything in your themes or Genesis plugins that would accomplish the task I have at hand???
Thanks again David!
Cheers-

Yes, I was. A simple iFrame, and that's what was used on that site you mentioned. But yes, among other downsides, iFrames resist styling, and I don't know if Vimeo offers any special display options.
Good luck, Dave

June 11, 2013 at 11:18 am #45305MarcParticipantWith a little effort you can use the Meteor Slides slider for video -

For things that I do with it, some mild development chops needed. It's the stand-alone, non-Posts type of image slider.
