My site http://monikamcgillicuddy.com/wordpress is showing only a white screen. I had a few other sites that showed the same but I was able to update Genesis to 2.2.2 via the dashboard but I can't with this site. I can't get into the dashboard. Any ideas? I did unzip the Genesis 2.2.2 files and ftp'd them to the Genesis folder in the themes folder. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.September 19, 2015 at 7:03 pm #166108Victor FontModeratorYou can test whether or not the recent upgrade is the culprit. Login to FTP and rename the wp-content/themes/genesis directory to something else. This will force WordPress to load one of its default themes. If the site comes back up, then it's a good indication that something went wrong with your upgrade. If the site doesn't come back up, then you've got more troubleshooting to do and you'll know the Genesis update isn't at fault.

Thanks Jay
September 20, 2015 at 7:32 am #166141Victor FontModeratorThe next thing I would do is reinstall WordPress through FTP. Download the latest version from WordPress.org and copy the files up to your server.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?September 21, 2015 at 1:30 pm #166232marianzolaParticipantI have done all you said Victor, and there is no way, I keep having the white screen of death, I updated, went back, and again on Saturday I had the white screen of death. I use default theme and it comes back, but no way with Genesis.
My sites are:
http://www.tarritodecurry.com
http://www.funbooks.esPlease help!!!! Should I download again Genesis? thank you
September 21, 2015 at 1:56 pm #166239RavenManiacParticipantWow, that's scary. Does the white screen of death happen often? Why usually triggers such an occurence?
September 21, 2015 at 3:41 pm #166249marianzolaParticipantIt has happened twice. Once, when the new update 2.2.2 was released, I updated and everything was normal. And now, I am getting the white screen again. It goes well with the wp themes, but not Genesis.
Thank you
September 21, 2015 at 3:46 pm #166250Victor FontModeratorWhite screen generally means a PHP error. I would reload Genesis manually.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?September 22, 2015 at 8:56 am #166352IDX LeadsMemberI had this problem when using the WP Super Cache plugin. I have also had it occur after a failed NextGen Gallery plugin update. I have never had a Genesis update cause a such a failure. I suspect this is a plugin-related issue.

September 22, 2015 at 9:25 am #166358marianzolaParticipantThank you Victor & Dave. I did what Victor said, reloading Genesis via FTP, and voilà, everything back.
This is solved, good suggestions.
September 27, 2015 at 7:03 pm #166810brett924MemberMarianzola....
Has it happened again yet or still doing fine?
I'm having the exact same thing happening with my sites. I'm going to try the FTP thing, but I'm one of those push button FTP and upload the theme inside WordPress guys. I've never FTP'd anything.
September 27, 2015 at 8:36 pm #166812IDX LeadsMemberHer/His site looks down to me. So please answer this question, are you using a caching plugin?
Esse quam videri
September 28, 2015 at 3:07 am #166821brett924MemberNo.
On one of my sites (see list on the thread I started elsewhere) is back up (I deleted Genesis, reuploaded, and re-activated the child theme). That's for a nonprofit (www.aaronandandrew.org). This is the third time I've done that.
No caching plugins. I'm down to the bear minimum (Akismet and Simple Social Icons) on http://www.nonprofitinsuranceblog.com. I had a malware issue on that site and deleted everything not necessary.
No caching plugins on other sites either. The only site working is the WP freebie theme.
September 28, 2015 at 3:53 am #166823marianzolaParticipantAgain having same problem. I can't keep loading copies and loading again.
Could you please really give us a solution? I have loaded twice via ftp, and it keeps having the problem, two days ok and then the white screen.
No caching plugins, working the other themes.
Thank you
September 28, 2015 at 4:40 am #166828Andrea RennickMemberThis is because your site is hacked.

September 28, 2015 at 6:08 am #166832marianzolaParticipantAll of them? I have 3 running with Genesis and the three of them are blank.

September 30, 2015 at 1:32 pm #167071Jay McGillicuddyMemberSince I was the initial poster, I have resolved my issue. It was a cache plugin issue and the Genesis theme as well. All resolved.
September 30, 2015 at 1:42 pm #167072ChristieMemberTo figure out precisely where the problem is, turn on your debugging.
1. Go to your wp-config.php file and find
2. Find the line that says: define('WP_DEBUG', false);
3. Change false to true
You will get an error on your white screen of death with the file name and line where the problem is
September 30, 2015 at 6:01 pm #167094brett924MemberI tried the changing false to true thing and still get the white screen (www.nonprofitinsuranceblog.com).
I'll submit a ticket. I've been able to get other sites up and running by deleting Genesis and reloading it. But I've had to do that every couple weeks over the last couple months. No way to live. 🙂
