Hi G,
I don't think there's reason for concern with adding/removing posts from a certain category. Depending on how many posts you think you'll have over time, the backend of your site will be much easier to manage if you use a custom post type. I know you're a newbie, but if you're a curious one, this is a great place to learn! 🙂
Here's an article on How to Create an Archive Template for a Custom Post Type. Warning: The tutorial itself may make you squirm at first, but it includes lots of good links/resources for learning about CPTs.
If you want to try it, feel free to ask questions. If you don't have time for a learning curve now, I can totally appreciate that, too. 🙂
Cheers,
Carrie

March 28, 2013 at 1:18 pm in reply to: Changing the background color in Primary Nav Menu For Modern Portfolio theme #31817cdilsParticipantHi Courtney,
This this if you want the background color to stretch all the way across the screen:
#subnav {
background-color: whatever;
}Or try this if you'd rather it be a confined width:
#subnav .wrap {
background-color: whatever;
}Cheers,
Carrie

March 28, 2013 at 9:10 am in reply to: Production Child Theme – Looking For Video Child Theme #31747cdilsParticipantKeep in mind, you can use ANY of the StudioPress themes to display your videos, so I'd select a mobile responsive one that you like the layout of and start there. 🙂
Check out the News Theme. It's responsive and might be great for video content.

cdilsParticipantHi there,
Would the Header Right widget area included in the theme not work for you? Basically same location and already has the responsive CSS to go with it. 🙂Cheers,

Sorry to say I don't know the answer, but I did find a couple of articles I was hoping might be useful to you:

cdilsParticipantLooks like you've swapped to the Metro theme?
If you're still using Decor (or any theme), you can change the CSS for the search results header to get the results you're wanting.

March 28, 2013 at 8:53 am in reply to: Changing the background color in Primary Nav Menu For Modern Portfolio theme #31739cdilsParticipantHi,
Try adding this to your CSS:
#nav {
background-color: whatever;
}
If that doesn't do the trick, post a link to your site and I'll take a look.
Do you use Firebug? It's magical and can help you figure out what CSS is behind your page elements. Here's more info: http://www.studiopress.com/tips/using-firebug.htm

cdilsParticipantHi there,
You can use CSS with the display:none; property to hide the button on regular screens, then in your media queries, set it to show.
If you go ahead and add the button in on your site so I can see it, I can help you get the right CSS.
Thanks,
Carrie

cdilsParticipantIf you set the widget to show full content instead of the excerpt, it should stop at the <!--more--> tag in your post. 🙂

That can be fixed with some CSS tweaks. If you post a link to your site I'd be glad to take a look.

March 28, 2013 at 8:45 am in reply to: Problem Using Default Posts View With a Custom Taxonomy #31734cdilsParticipantHey there,
A single post template won't come into play until you're viewing a single article (be it a default post or your News cpt). Where you're seeing the difference is how the archives are displaying.
Possible reasons it doesn't match:
When you created your CPT, did you set 'has_archive' => true ?
Did you create an archives template for your CPT?
Do you have any plugins running that impact post display?
Have you added any custom code to your theme for controlling post excerpts?
What are your Genesis theme settings for the archive?Sorry for the twenty questions - just trying to narrow down why they're not a match. 🙂
Cheers,
Carrie

You might have fun perusing code snippets from other Genesis people over on Github. Start with Brian Gardner (https://github.com/bgardner) and then check his follower list to discover other people & snippets.

cdilsParticipantI wouldn't recommend changing the plugin code for the reasons you mentioned.
I'm thinking you could use a filter to achieve your results, but I'm not 100% what it is... Here's the Genesis Filter Reference: http://my.studiopress.com/docs/filter-reference/ in case that helps. 🙂

cdilsParticipantHi there,
Were you updating to Genesis 1.9.1? There were some known issues with the grid loop that might be the cause of your problem!You may want to read some solutions posted in the forums here: http://www.studiopress.community/?s=grid+loop+genesis+1.9
OR, Bill Erickson wrote a Genesis Grid Loop plugin that's really easy to use and doesn't require custom coding. 🙂
Let me know if that gets you pointed in the right direction!

Carrie

March 23, 2013 at 3:35 pm in reply to: Streamline: How to get newsletter banner name box above email box? #30783cdilsParticipantHi there,
Open up style.css and look for this line:
.newsletter .enews #subbox, .newsletter .enews #subbox1
If you just want to reduce the space between the name/email fields, add in a margin like this:
margin: 10px 10px 0 0;
So that your completed CSS for that element would look like this:
.newsletter .enews #subbox, .newsletter .enews #subbox1 {
margin: 10px 10px 0 0;
padding: 9px 10px 8px 50px;
}If you want to change the background color on those fields, you can add the following to the above CSS:
background-color: #f2ddaf;
(That's a cream color, but you could make it whatever).
Cheers,
Carrie

March 23, 2013 at 3:24 pm in reply to: design question – searching for a nicer way to display links #30781cdilsParticipantHmmm. Challenging one!
Can you break it up with some graphic elements / large icons? My thought would be to utilize a lot of white space in between each section of links to create less visual clutter and make it feel less overwhelming.
Other idea might be to look at various news websites or Chamber websites that are link heavy and see if they have any good design tactics you can draw on. 🙂
Cheers,
Carrie
