Thank you Brad, worked like a dream. Is there any way to let it not crop? If I have images that are too short, it blows them up and then crops. Some are give or take 30 pixels either direction.
This may seem like a silly question, but do you actually have your slider set to show more than 1 post/page? If so, then do you actually have more than one post/page for it to show? And last, if the answers were yes and yes, then do you have it set to fade in or out or transition in some way? I believe if those are not set, it won't "slide". Most of the themes I've used for Genesis all use the Genesis Responsive Slider and that's how the plugin works.
I went ahead and removed it from each of the four sites I've done. They're faster without it. So I'm not sure who it's supposed to be helping. Dial-up? lol. 🙂January 7, 2013 at 10:43 pm in reply to: magazine theme adding background image to title bar and footer bar #10270
Thank you Tisha. I will try that. I have been very busy. But this is very helpful. So far I am loving Genesis. Four sites so far, all beautiful with only a few styles I wanted to change. But wow, it really loads fast. 🙂
You're right. I just checked the zip files for Genesis and the Magazine theme. Why would HostGator install a plugin "for me"? That seems very intrusive. Now I don't feel bad at all about getting rid of it. Honestly, I didn't notice any difference with it. And it certainly makes sense now why it didn't transfer well to GoDaddy. What other issues have you heard with this plugin? I know I had problems actually clearing the cache. It never seemed to do it when I wanted it.January 2, 2013 at 3:52 am in reply to: magazine theme adding background image to title bar and footer bar #8915
Thanks for the kind reply. What I originally tried with the header worked. I just copied it for the footer as well with a dark periwinkle footer image the same dimensions as the one that comes with the Magazine theme. Not sure if something went wrong with the initial WordPress installation or I introduced a bug when I was in editing style.css of the child theme. I had to wipe everything down to the bone and reinstall the backup. I am meticulous. Rather than hunt for it, I just wiped the directory clean and started with the fresh backup.
I don't think it would work to tile vertically as well as horizontally. It would interfere with the other elements, wouldn't it? Initially, I wanted to set the background color for those portions and use an overlay image, like polkadots or plaster effect. That is beyond my capability with CSS, however. If you know how to do that, I'd love to know. I like the plaster effect at the top here, http://bit.ly/W0seos, that's in turquoise. Or the polkadot effect in lime green. That theme, however, is not as easy to read as Genesis or Magazine. 🙁
It's nice to meet someone from Oregon. I have never been to Eagle Point. When I read "the pond", I thought England. lol. 🙂

Well that worked until I went in to edit a post. Don't know what I did but now I cannot edit posts with the visual editor. 🙁 Reverted back and still have a problem. 11th commandment: thou shalt not modify colors in Genesis... 😛December 30, 2012 at 10:54 am in reply to: magazine theme adding background image to title bar and footer bar #8388
I was able to change the background color using the following, but I still would prefer to add a background image to the title bar and the footer bar.
In the child theme style.css I changed from this:
background: url(images/wrap.png) repeat-x;
margin: 0 auto;
background: url(images/dark-periwinkle-wrap.png) repeat-x;
margin: 0 auto;
This was after I created the dark-periwinkle-wrap.png file that's 6x115 in the color I wanted (dark periwinkle) as opposed to the existing wrap.png file which is 6x115 in #2b2b2b. This changed the background color of the title bar.
To change the footer bar background color, I modified the style.css file for the child theme (magazine) from this:
/* 445cbd is dark periwinkle */
Still looking for a way to make this background images instead. Any help would be appreciated. 😛
It would be even better if the theme had this for an option.
I had a similar image when I changed the dimensions. It wasn't in the slider. It was that the image was cropped "shorter" when I uploaded it. So I removed the old image, changed the image maximum height and width in Settings (the regular settings for WordPress) and then uploaded it again. Voila, all fixed. 🙂 Maybe that will work.
Thank you. That's what I suspected. I couldn't imagine that they wanted me to pay $79.95 over and over again. 🙁
I am new and have a question for anyone. There are three themes I'm interested in getting along with the framework. Now that I see all the free plugins that come with the Genesis framework, I realize I may not need one of those themes at all. Sooooo, this is what I'm thinking. Purchase the Genesis framework and then later buy the themes. How much are the themes after you've already purchased the Genesis framework and is there a bundle price, like say for example $3 for 45 or anything like that? I just don't want to get zinged and find out I have to pay $59 each theme after I purchase the framework. If that's the case, I'll have to think long and hard about which theme to get.
Your theme looks beautiful JesterTears. Very similar to what I was looking for. I wish they would make a pinboard-type theme that's responsive. I would absolutely love that.
