Hi, I think the solution is just to add some padding to the top of the .sidebar element. Try adding this at the end of your style.css file and tweaking the value until it lines up.
.sidebar { padding-top: 40px; }
July 26, 2015 at 1:24 pm in reply to: How to set the featured image size on a custom post type archive #160507CraigMemberHere's a code snippet I've used in the past to accomplish this:
remove_action( 'genesis_entry_content', 'genesis_do_post_image', 8 ); add_action( 'genesis_entry_header', 'themeprefix_featured_photo', 3 ); /** * Remove standard genesis_do_post_image * and add an alternative featured image size */ function themeprefix_featured_photo() { if ( $image = genesis_get_image( array( 'format' => 'url', 'size' => 'local-thumbnail' ) ) ) { printf( '<div class="featured-image"><img src="%s" alt="%s" /></div>', $image, the_title_attribute( 'echo=0' ) ); } }
Hope this helps.
CraigMemberYou can change your home page by editing the Site Address under General Settings. There are some instructions to follow, and you need to move your .htaccess file up a level, but it would easily let you create the static front page your looking for without getting too in depth.
However, if you want to move your whole WordPress installation into the root then I would take a full backup, then do the following:
- Go to Settings > General, and change your site url from http://domain.com/blog to http://domain.com. (This will break your site).
- Log in via FTP, enter the /blog directory, then move all of the files up a level to the domain root.
- Visit http://domain.com/wp-admin/ and log in, and save permalinks immediately.
- Install WP DB Search and Replace plugin and replace any instances of domain.com/blog in your database with domain.com.
- Check through your theme files and replace any further instances of /blog.
Now while I'm comfortable doing something like that, depending on your experience level you may not be. Obviously I would suggest taking a full backup first, so that you can restore back to where you were.
CraigMemberThe problem is with security. Your website uses https, but it's trying to pull in the form using plain http which is causing an error:
Mixed Content: The page at 'https://speedsecrets.com/' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure script 'http://forms.aweber.com/form/67/703585067.js'. This request has been blocked; the content must be served over HTTPS.
CraigMemberHi Annamarie, the correct function name in this case would be genesis_sample_responsive_menu(). There's lots more info about naming conventions etc in the WP Coding Standards Handbook (specifically at https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/coding-standards/php/#naming-conventions).
CraigMemberHi Mark, I haven't suggested that you use wp_enqueue_scripts(). I have stated that inside your function ms_include_admin_script() you need to use wp_enqueue_script() to call your .js file. Your function ms_include_admin_script() is then hooked to admin_enqueue_scripts.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Action_Reference/admin_enqueue_scripts
CraigMemberHi Mark, it should show up in the source in the footer, as that's where it is specified in wp_enqueue_script. There's no concatenation/ compression there which would hide it. I cut and pasted the code into my test site and was able to verify the code, the only thing I had to change was that the code paste used the wrong type of apostrophe so I changed them to ' instead of `.
CraigMemberHi Doug, your logo appears off center in every browser I tested (more so at smaller resolutions).
Could I first suggest editing the header/logo again and making sure that the logo is in the dead center (using guides or in Photoshop it will snap to grid if this option is turned on). At the moment it appears slightly to the left (I notice the image itself is 1200x 200, this could be trimmed down to the edges of the logo).
Then when editing the CSS, make sure that the background position is set to center center or top center, whichever produces the best results.
CraigMemberI would always recommend taking a backup first, but switching between Genesis Child themes is usually pretty painless, I've had a couple of changeovers where widget areas haven't matched up so some of my widgets are moved to the inactive pile and I have to move them to their equivalent position, but that's about it.
April 19, 2015 at 4:03 pm in reply to: How to make my footer widgets expand to an equal height? #148464CraigMemberHi Matt, this is something which I would usually use jQuery to achieve. I have a custom plugin very similar to Tim Svenson's Equalize (found here: http://tsvensen.github.io/equalize.js/) which I would be set to loop through selected divs (ie .footer-widgets > div) and then give them all a specific height which is equal to the tallest div.
CraigMemberHey Mark, a couple of quick changes should get this working I think. You should definitely be using wp_enqueue_script within the function. If the theme is a child theme (which it likely is, I think) then get_template_directory_uri() is no good. This function will return the URL of the parent theme rather than the child. Try switching this for get_stylesheet_directory_uri() and see if it works.
function ms_include_admin_script() { wp_enqueue_script( ‘my-admin-script’, get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . ‘/js/my-admin-script.js’, array( ‘jquery’ ), null, true ); } add_action( ‘admin_enqueue_scripts’, ‘ms_include_admin_script’ );
CraigMemberIn your WordPress dashboard, go to Genesis > SEO Settings, and there should be a metabox there allowing you to add a title, description and keywords for the home page.
CraigMemberInstructions on modifying the footer are available here: http://my.studiopress.com/snippets/footer
It suggests either using the Simple Edits (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/genesis-simple-edits/) plugin, or by adding one of the various PHP snippets to your theme's functions.php file.
CraigMemberEasiest way to do this would be to do the same as in the Sixteen Nine theme:
- Give site container a fixed width 1280px
- Set the .site-header to a fixed width (240px) float it to the left, and give it position:fixed.
- Place your site navigation in the header right widget area (which is now below the site title in your fixed width sidebar).
- Float the site-inner to the right, giving it width of 1040px;
Have a look at http://demo.studiopress.com/sixteen-nine/ for reference.
September 23, 2014 at 1:34 pm in reply to: How to add a .png image in your header that overlaps header / body #125463CraigMemberThink you could achieve this fairly easily using absolute positioning in CSS and making sure overflow was visible on your container element.
Genesis-wise, if this png was your logo you would probably need to make it an inline image rather than background image.
CraigMemberTry adding the following to the end of your style.css
body.home .site-header { display:none; visibility:hidden } body.home .site-inner { padding-top:0; }
CraigMemberHi Kirsten,
To adjust the CSS on the post titles now that they're H1's instead of H2's, I would add this to your style.css file:
h1.entry-title a, h1.entry-title a:visited { color: #333; text-decoration: none; }
Re: your second post, regarding the name of the function, you can edit it to whatever you like, it says craig because I copied and pasted from one of my own functions.php files. If you do change it, you should change both the reference in the filter, and the name of the function so that they match.
September 11, 2014 at 11:14 am in reply to: Writing page text best practice suggestions and/or best editor plugin #123968CraigMemberCraigMemberYou could edit the CSS and include a background image fairly easily. You would need to modify the .site-header element to add background-image, and then specify the image url:
.site-header { background-color: #76d2c5; background-image: url('http://path.to/your/image.jpg'); padding: 48px; overflow: hidden; }
CraigMemberI use a text editor which has line numbers built in.
If you're just using the WP editor, then try using the find tool in your browser, and looking for .genesis-nav-menu or you can beef up the stock WordPress editor with the WP Editor plugin ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-editor/ ).
