Genesis makes this stuff easy - the snippets page has all kinds of options to get you started:
essaysnarkParticipantYes, we need a link to your site in order for anyone to provide much help on specific questions. The question you asked does require code modification (probably) but it sounds like a simple thing that you will change in your style.css file.
You might also look into the Genesis Extender plugin:
http://cobaltapps.com/downloads/genesis-extender-plugin/
There is a learning curve with this stuff; be prepared for some frustration along the way. Genesis is awesome but learning Genesis at the same time as you're learning WordPress (if that's the case) and not knowing how themes are set up can be a lot. Be sure to keep backups on hand in case you clobber something, so that you can restore a file and be back in business easily.

essaysnarkParticipant@allysonrobison, you might want to explore another way to display that book cover instead of having it as part of your background image. That technique isn't too friendly to mobile devices or lower screen resolutions, which hide the cover completely.
essaysnarkParticipantWP Customer Reviews is decent and does use the schema thing:
essaysnarkParticipantThis should be a sticky at the top of this forum.
essaysnarkParticipantThanks Tom - I may have been misremembering. I do know that GFWA comes up frequently here, and the OP said that the Foodie theme does recommend it.
essaysnarkParticipant@emmtre, wondering if you ever found a solution to this?
essaysnarkParticipant+1 to all Summer's suggestions (sticky in the plugin's WP forum, dedicated forum here). Have seen many many requests for help on this plugin here on the forums and always end up shrugging with nothing to offer; it's got many known issues and seemed to have been abandoned by the developer. This is an issue since the StudioPress setup instructions for many themes recommend using this plugin.
essaysnarkParticipantEbu, one thing you might try is to edit the image in the Media Library and in the Alternative Text field, enter
- this will result inalt=""
in most cases when the image is placed into a post or a page. Also just FYI, this is an all-volunteer forum, it's not staffed by StudioPress people. You can always send a request for help in to their support team through the My StudioPress link at the top of this page.
essaysnarkParticipant@PineWeb, a lot of people use the Genesis Responsive Slider plugin for the "carousel" feature.
essaysnarkParticipantThe suggestions I provided should cover this situation then. Did you try them?
essaysnarkParticipantLet me see if I am following you.
You've successfully initialized the sidebar, and it's showing up in your Widgets screen? And now you want to use it to display the portfolio CPTs somehow?
If I've understood you correctly, then I think there are two plugins that may help:
1. To display the portfolio CPTs, you should be able to use the Genesis Featured Widget Amplified plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-featured-widget-amplified/
2. To have that widget operate only on the Archives page, then you can use the Widget Logic plugin
http://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-logic/
You will want to use a conditional like is_archive()
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_archive
I may have misunderstood part or all of your request though. If so, please write back and explain it again and I'll give it another go.
essaysnarkParticipantGlad you got this working. I spent a good half hour looking at your two sites earlier today and came up with nada. Thanks for coming back to post a solution, others will surely appreciate that in the future.
essaysnarkParticipantLooks like the StudioPress demo for that theme is a different version (1.0.1); you might start by updating the theme. Be sure to take a backup first, especially if you've modified your stylesheet or functions.php, as you'll need to restore those files into the upgraded theme. There's some different CSS in the StudioPress demo (e.g, " background-position: 50% 0px;" in the element but I don't know if that's governing this behavior or not).
If you can't get this behavior and you're certain you have it set up according to the theme instructions, it might be worth sending a request for support on it; the StudioPress staff don't hang around here much.
essaysnarkParticipantAre you talking about the options for configuring the Genesis Featured Posts widget?
If so, then this plugin might support Tags; not sure. Also it's not been updated in quite some time and others have reported some problems with it, so YMMV.

Or this one looks to be a more recent incarnation of something similar:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-featured-content-widget/
essaysnarkParticipant@fwhyte, here's an example - coincidentally also a vet - that was built by another forum member David Chu. The main site has blog content integrated on the front page here: http://homevetsnyc.com/ yet you can also link directly to the blog here: http://homevetsnyc.com/blog/ Plus, there are multiple sites linked in on the menu bar at the top right ( http://petrequiem.com/ and http://conciergevets.com/ ).
essaysnarkParticipantNot entirely sure what you're asking but I'll take a stab at it.
It looks like you already have the blog linked from the clinic website, though that link should be updated to remove the Blogger redirect, and just have the link go straight to your new WordPress home page.
Your blog on WordPress can be extended to include any other types of content that you wish. The WordPress Pages (in your backend admin screen) are designed for static content that doesn't change. This is ideal for adding content like an About page and anything else that you want to have ("non-blog" content). Essentially this means that you could build around the current blog that you've got at the Better Health domain, by adding pages for the additional content that you need.
I'm not sure what you mean by having the blog available on its own though. I guess one option would be to keep the blog that you currently have, and then build a separate site with the other content that you need and link to the blog from it using frames or something, as is being done now from your clinic site.
If you want to try again to describe what you want with more specifics, then I'll see what I can do to guide you. The bottom line is that you can do pretty much anything with WordPress; how you go about it of course depends on the end goal that you have in mind. I would need more clarity on that before I can help further.
April 13, 2014 at 3:51 pm in reply to: Can't decide between third party theme vs. studio press theme #100095essaysnarkParticipantWhile "mix and match the code" is technically possible, in practice this can be very challenging for someone with no coding experience.
@Dogwood, be prepared for a learning curve and some frustration. WordPress is not completely easy for a beginner on its own, and adding in Genesis and customizing a theme can tangle the brain into knots. Plugins can be used with any theme, so Andrea's suggestion on the recipe plugin looks like a great path-forward for you: go with the theme that looks the way you want it to look and install that plugin and see how far that gets you.essaysnarkParticipantPersonally I would use an HTML table for this instead.
