FiestaParticipant
Thanks very much for your help Victor.
I am using WordPress 4.8.1 and have made the changes you suggest (still wilh the default text widget). This has improved the appearance in terms of the 728x90 ad now appearing higher than it was.
However, I'm still seeing it overflow to the right of the header area.
Best Regards
Gerry
FiestaParticipantThat happens in portrait view.
But if you look at the page in landscape view on a tablet it just pushes to the right beyond its intended border.
FiestaParticipantThanks Brad
I tried the genesis_entry_content hook but the ad appeared at the bottom of the content.
I'm not familiar with custom functions or what the_content filter refers to.
FiestaParticipantI've achieved the same result using <br> in the text having been unable to create the space with css padding.
Please close thread.
FiestaParticipantAdding the following to Firebug does the trick (creates space between home top widget and home middle widget but it doesn't take effect once added to the CSS:
.home-top .widget-area {
padding-bottom: 20px;}
FiestaParticipantThanks
Through much trial and error with the CSS I've more or less managed to close all the excessive white space that I was having issues with.
The last problem is trying to create some space between the opening paragraph and the "Festivals in Spain" widget.
It looks from Firebug like I could add a margin or padding to the bottom of "home-top widget-area". But this doesn't appear in the CSS. I tried creating such a class but saw no difference.
FiestaParticipantThanks Anita
The more-link has worked fine.
But there remains a lot of white space between the widgets even after changing that bottom margin to 0. It's the same issue in the sidebar.
Is the problem maybe featured-content img? If so, I don't see a margin/padding setting for it.
FiestaParticipantJust checked Firebug and see that the main content area of these two themes has increased from 600 to 700px.
As a test I've copied my existing column class code across to a different site which is using Lifestyle Pro and it displayed the images correctly.
So nothing to worry about?
Still compiling a list of "what might go wrong" issues to prepare for.
FiestaParticipantHere's an example with 2 images and no text:

http://www.spanish-fiestas.com/regions/asturias/ (scroll down a little)I have thousands of images loaded at this specific size.
Thanks
FiestaParticipantBut some images lose quality. I'm interested in this in the CSS:
img {
max-width: 98%;
}I think this could be responsible.
What is the purpose of this forced image reduction?
Any problem if I change it to 100%?
FiestaParticipantThanks Brad
Issue now resolved & I owe an apology to Simple Sidebars ...
When I originally set up my sidebars I had given one of them the slug "Home" which is what was causing me the problem. I've now deleted that and the correct version of the Home widget now appears as intended.
All under control 🙂
FiestaParticipantThanks Anitac
I've made a a couple of small changes to the functions.php file and a lot of changes to the style.css file.
Would it be fair to assume that initially I'll completely 'mess up' my site after downloading the new version until I've made all the same changes to these two files?
FiestaParticipantThis is an issue which I hadn't managed to resolve. Remembering Brad's suggestion that maybe there's a plugin conflict I just deactivated all plugins and saw the "Home" widget return. Then one at a time I reactivated plugins until I saw it disappear.
I was surprised to find that the conflict is with "Genesis Simple Sidebars".
Any idea how I can keep this plugin and have access to the "Home" widget?
Thanks
FiestaParticipantI am well aware that I have selected a static page as my homepage & don't want "my latest posts" to become the homepage (they form my blog page).
This does not answer the question as to why the "Home" option no longer appears in Appearance > Widgets.
I have 3 other sites in which I have selected "A Static Page" as the front page. In all 3 of them the "Home" option appears in Appearance > Widgets.
FiestaParticipantThanks for taking a look Brad.
