I have the same issue. If any css gurus are familiar with how to manipulate the extent to which the "find out more" button scrolls down the screen, it would be much appreciated!
[email protected]MemberAlthough I have to say, now that I've seen the tutorial you linked to in your original post, I like that sound of that better than what I did, so I'm going to try that instead! But anyway, now you have something else to try that also should work.
[email protected]MemberHi Rosesilk -- I think I just accomplished something on my site that sounds similar to what you want to do. I am a rank novice myself, so take the below with a grain of salt, but I got it to work, and it was very simple.
The net effect is a Category of posts that shows as its own page, and which is listed in the menu under it's category name. Here is what I did, which I think is a different method than what you described: 1) create new post with a title such as "Questions and Answers" (this will end up looking like the page title), and the content of the post might be "Here is where I try to answer your questions!"; 2) Create/assign a Category, to the post, for example "Q&A" and publish it; 3) visit your site from the front-end, and navigate to the "Q&A" category, and you will go to the page for that category (which at the moment has only the one post on it), and double click on the URL and copy the URL into your clip-board; 4) go back to your controls area, and go to Appearance>Menus and then where it says "Custom Links" paste your category-page URL into the URL-box, then under "Label" type in what you want the menu-item to say such as "Q&A"; then you just click "add to menu". Remember to "Save Menu" before you navigate away; Now you should have a "Q&A" menu item that effectively leads to a Q&A "page".
The trouble now, is that the posts in this category will now show up under Q&A "page" AND in Your blog. So, you can tell WordPress to exclude the "Q&A" category from your Blog, so that those items will only show up as long as you know the Category ID Number. So, do this: 1) Go to the left side of the control panel under "Posts" and click "Categories", and then when the list of categories comes up, hover your pointer over the "Q&A" category. The status-bar of your browser will show a long URL-type thing including part that says something like "...category&tag_ID=15....." where the number is your category ID; then 2) got to Genesis>Blog Page Template and put that category ID in the box that says to exclude these categories from blog-page templates. You could make it so that people post their questions as "Comments" to your original post, and everything is just a chain of comments thereafter. Or I guess you could let people make "posts" depending how you set it up thereafter.
[email protected]MemberThank you, Bill. You hit the nail on the head: I created the posts prior to configuring the discussion settings to allow comments. Thus, the pre-existing posts still did not allow comments. As you further predicted, there was no "discussion" controls showing on the individual post settings, so I had to check-the "discussion" box on "screen settings" in order to show the relevant controls to turn-on comments for each post. [email protected]MemberIs there a way to tell in advance whether updating to 1.9 is going to break things? I also use the Corporate theme and Genesis 1.8.2. Although my new years resolution is to finally complete my long unfinished site, I'm currently nervous about updating to 1.9.x, because if it breaks what-little-is-done on my current site -- even in a simply way -- I'll likely have no clue as to how to how to fix it or get the menus back, or whatever may happen.
