I knew what you meant, but thanks for the clarification for others who might see this post!
jodzeeeMemberThank you!
jodzeeeMemberOkay, got it. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with your tutorial and responding in this forum!
jodzeeeMemberThanks a bunch, Carrie! I'll take some time to check that out. At first glance it looks very helpful 🙂
I do have a couple other threads open, the intention of my brain dump here was to give feedback on how the current tutorial could be updated to be more helpful to noobs like me.
Happy weekend!
Jodi
jodzeeeMemberYes, the AgentPress theme. Got it.
I'm pretty new to all this, so unfortunately, sometimes I'm not clear on what's a WP default versus part of the theme.
I'm still working my way through it, but specifically, here are some things I noticed:
I was able to follow the instructions pretty easily through maps and videos, after that it got trickier
As I mentioned in another post, I had trouble getting the thumbnails to work for the category listings (am I supposed to assign a Featured Image?)
I also found it challenging to get the Additional Photos to work (because there was no size setting)
In the tutorial, it mentions something about the property map shortcode - typo?
A few notes about how to configure the gallery plugin would be nice too - I happened across it and found I had choices — but I can't find it anymore! 🙁 Maybe this is a default WP thing, but it'd be nice to point out anyway
I don't see anything on how to set up the home page to look like the demo. I started by making it a full-width (it looks like that in the demo, no?), but I had trouble with padding issues (I have another post in the forum about that). Seems I have to adjust the CSS, so I skipped the home page and moved on for now.
"Add Slider to the Widget Area" is mentioned. What is this - where on the demo is it shown?
That's all the farther I've gotten in the tutorial. Still tweaking and learning...
p.s. Why can't I get the bullets to work in this editor?
Thanks!
jodzeeeMemberIf there's even an old video tutorial that exists anywhere, I'd love to see it - and I promise not to wonder my screen is different 🙂
I feel like the written how-to is missing important information and/or written in a hurry.
jodzeeeMemberAnother, related question...
So, I'm inserting the image into the listing and the thumbnail automatically shows up on the search page - cool. But, then I decide I want to use a different one and it doesn't update the thumbnail. What am I doing wrong? It seems like sometimes it does, but mostly not. I found that assigning the "Featured Image" does the trick.
Is that the way I'm supposed to be doing it?
jodzeeeMemberOkay, I have no idea what was going on, but I got it to work now. I had inserted images into the listing, but they weren't showing up on the property status pages. When I attached one (via Media Library under the "Uploaded to" column), it seemed to work so I thought that's how I was supposed to do it.
As I was writing a long-winded response, something told me it should be easier than that so I created a new listing and added an image and that worked fine. I have no idea why the others aren't working, but by deleting the image and putting it back in, it seems to be fine. Weird.
Thanks for your help and patience, I really appreciate it! I'm sure I'll have more questions while working on this project!
jodzeeeMemberThanks, that's very helpful!
jodzeeeMemberMy question is regarding attaching an image more than once, not inserting.
I'm attaching them to a listing. I think this is how I'm supposed to make the image show up with the other parameters.
jodzeeeMemberWhat bit was stripped out?
jodzeeeMemberNo, I had no idea ... I hadn't even looked at the text section. Here's what it showed (no size):
[gallery columns="5" ids="838,836,837,389,323"]
I added size -"featured" and that did the trick (thanks!!)
What does link="file" as in your example do?
Do I have any other control over the size (e.g., if I wanted to squeeze in more than 5 columns at a smaller size)
And where should I be looking for this kind of documentation? Nothing of this was mentioned in the setup/how to page.
jodzeeeMemberLMK: This link should help ...
jodzeeeMemberWhoa, let's try that again. Is there a way to edit or delete posts?
I’m currently developing it offline using WAMP.
It’s a fresh install and I haven’t done anything to the CSS yet, so I’m having trouble understanding why it would act this way out of the box. Here’s what I found using Firebug:
If home page is assigned full-width layout:
.page-template-home-demo-php.full-width-content #inner, .archive.full-width-content #inner, .home.full-width-content #inner { padding-bottom: 0; padding-left: 0; padding-right: 0; padding-top: 0; width: 960px; }
Versus full width page that is not the home page:
#inner { background-color: #FFFFFF; box-shadow: 0 1px 3px #000000; margin-bottom: 0; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; margin-top: 0; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden; padding-bottom: 20px; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; padding-top: 20px; width: 920px; }
So I think I found my answer, but don’t understand why it’d be different.
Also, as a sidenote – the home page out of the box has a broken link. It links to http://demo.studiopress.com/agentpress-two/ instead of http://demo.studiopress.com/agentpress/
Thanks,
