I’m using the Magazine theme. How would I change the “Home – Middle” widget into 2 columns?

Try using column classes (built into the css) within a text widget that you add to the Home-Middle widget.

Yes, I thought about doing that. However, I want one column where I can drag and drop the “recent posts widget” into the first column and the other column where I can drop in my newsletter signup.

Put both widgets into Home-Middle and style them with css to fit within. If you look in a web inspector you will see each widget has a specific name.

Wrote about this exact topic awhile ago for the Magazine Pro theme.
