    I found an article that describes how to move the header outside of the wrap, but what I want is to create a new widget area outside of it. I’ve registered a new area above my header, but I’d like it not to have the white background so the image background shows through (and the shadow would be removed as well).

    remove the background from your #wrap :

    #wrap {
    background: none;
    }

    and add transparent background to your new widget area :

    #cta {
    background: transparent;
    }

    that should make it transparent…

    The reason I want to put the top outside of the wrap is because I want the #wrap to have a solid white background, plus I don’t want the shadow on the transparent top are either.

    Thanks, I took the dev site down after it went live (www.tecadatasafe.com). I haven’t yet found a solution so I gave up for now. I’d still love to know though – please post back if you figure it out.
