Most themes like this if you use the property search feature, like on the front page. It will only show you listings that you manually enter in.
If I buy these and the recommeneded idxpress wordpress, will it totally integrate into this theme?
Will it allow me to do idx search from the search box on front page right out of the box with the idxpress plugin installed?
Will the search results page look exactly like the demo?
I know this are some wierd question, but I have bought way to many themes that advertise the world and then don't deliver? This is my 1st test of the genesis framework themes....March 23, 2013 at 6:14 pm #30801
IDX data and AgentPress Listings data are not at all the same thing. You can probably make the AgentPress Listing display look like the idxpress display....but the actual data is derived from separate sources. Data entered into an AgentPress Listing post won't change the MLS data, and vice versa.March 23, 2013 at 6:32 pm #30803
I understand they are different, but to me when someone says it is integrated, it means they are combined and the search functions will work for either.March 23, 2013 at 6:32 pm #30804
Sorry, MLS and IDX data are essentially synonymous with regard to your question.March 23, 2013 at 6:44 pm #30806
"I understand they are different, but to me when someone says it is integrated, it means they are combined and the search functions will work for either."
No, they won't. All MLS IDX data providers are required to make it clear, the data is copyright protected. If StudioPress chose to become an IDX solution provider they would have do the same, and be subject to MLS IDX rule compliance. The AgentPress Listing plug-in is not compliant with any MLS IDX. That does not mean it's breaking any laws, it's just not an IDX solution.March 23, 2013 at 8:07 pm #30814
I think what they mean by integration is exactly what this developer did with their website. They didn't use the Agentpress plugin, nor the Agentpress theme. They used Education and "integrated" the IDX features into it. I think people have different interpretations of what the word "integrate" means. To me it means being able to successfully use two products together without error. In this case, that's what they've done.
They've used the IDX Search box over the slider. When you click the Search, the result rendered inside the actual website - embedded on the page which to me means... they have integrated the two products together.March 24, 2013 at 7:16 am #30857
Yes, that's a good example of using an IDX search widget. And yes, IDX providers offer numerous plugins-ins that work fluidly in the Genesis framework. This is what I was attempting to clarify:
“I understand they are different, but to me when someone says it is integrated, it means they are combined and the search functions will work for either.”
The search functions are not combined. When a prospective AgentPress customer views the AP demo they are not seeing IDX functionality or data. Therefore they need to be aware that they will indeed have to manually enter listing data, including pictures, etc. to replicate the look and feel of the demo site using the AgentPress Listing plug-in.March 24, 2013 at 7:43 am #30858
I see where you're at. I have used the SP products for a long time and have been using the forums (both old and new for a long time). I personally haven't seen where a potential customer has been confused by "integration" because prior to the new forum, there was a better set of instructions and detail on setting up the AgentPress theme. Here are the instructions you get now - http://my.studiopress.com/setup/agentpress-theme/. They also provide instruction on IDX Integration here - http://demo.studiopress.com/agentpress/idx-integration.
I think you're issue can be best summed up is that neither one of these pieces of information are provided to you until you have purchased the theme. It's not that you are being misled in anyway - just that the "how it works" and the "how to's" are not easily explained prior to you purchasing AgentPress.March 24, 2013 at 10:18 am #30893
I think it is explained at the demo site, but not as well as it should be. Let's take this page for example:
That's a listing detail page from the AP IDX demo. Right above the IDX demo data you have a quick search widget that is APLP functionality (which requires manually entered data). In addition, there is a secondary menu comprised of property searches that are entirely APLP functionality. Once again, that requires manually entered data.
I just think it needs to be perfectly clear that the APLP is not an IDX tool, and requires manually entered data. With this in mind the demo site is somewhat misleading as it spotlights APLP functionality and styling while suggesting it's fully integrated for IDX.March 24, 2013 at 10:23 am #30897
I see. I think in there IDX example they need to remove the Quick Search. That is confusing since that only applies to manually inserted homes. And the same goes with the sidebar information. I will send in a ticket to SP to let them know that so they can possibly make an adjustment to that page.
Thank you for pointing that out because I never noticed it.March 24, 2013 at 10:27 am #30899
Yes that is what was confusing to me, but I bought the theme and working with dsIDXPress to get MLS setup. I figured out I can use the hook system to do what I want, by inserting the dsIDXPress search widget in Slider. I have not got that far, but I think it will work from reading documentation,.March 24, 2013 at 10:55 am #30908
It should be no problem to place an IDX search widget in the slider search box. Now, if you can figure out a way to get the slider to display IDX listing data let me know how you do it.March 24, 2013 at 12:14 pm #30927
I sent the email to support about this. Hopefully someone will respond with in the next 24-48 hours.March 24, 2013 at 12:31 pm #30934
Of course I don't have dsIDXPress set up yet, just using the demo now, but I think what would be great if is dsIDXPress or StudioPress got together to make a tutorial on how to get this integrated.March 24, 2013 at 1:04 pm #30943
I think it would be even better if SP offered an IDX solution of their own. They are losing tons of revenue to DS and others by only selling themes. My IDX costs me every month, my SP Genesis themes are one time expenses. I would prefer to purchase IDX & themes from the same source. That's what DS has figured out and they are selling tons of Zillow branded WP IDX websites to agents right now. I am sure SP knows the market shifted and that they face many challenges to keep AgentPress relevant.
